The first thing I noted when researching Danish food is that they love to put mini flags on all their desserts. I am kicking myself for not getting my act together and making some for our kransekage, but I settled for cornflowers and icing instead which I'm sure taste better than flags anyway.
We started our TheTasteTrail journey in Finland and snaked our way down through Eastern, central and southern Europe before winding our way back up again. It was nice to get back to Scandinavia, it proved familiar territory with the open sandwiches, dark rye breads and pickled everything. If you’re not a pathetic fish-a-phobic fool like I then I understand that the herring is unmissable. Neither of us felt like we missed out without the fish though, all three dishes were yummy.
