Did you know that Belarus is chock a block of buried treasure? No me neither. This is not a metaphorical reference to potatoes, though as is standard in this region of the world there are a shit load of potatoes. Heck potatoes are everywhere, find me a country that doesn't have a potato dish. So yeah, amongst all the potatoes and beetroots, the parsnips, swedes, turnips and carrots, underneath the cabbages and occasionally rooted out by the vast pig population there is treasure and lots of it. The most famous of which being the legend of the Radzivil treasure, 12 statues of the apostles made out of gold and silver and adorned with precious gems. It's still out there apparently.
We tried an oatmeal soup, a potato babka and pancakes with caramelised apples. Gutted I couldn’t find any birch sap to wash it down with, does anybody I know own a birch tree?
